HEROES
Honoring Those Who Answered the Call
Throughout history, moments of crisis have revealed the extraordinary strength that lies within ordinary people.
This year, Chabad of the Valley proudly honors three remarkable individuals whose courage, selflessness, and commitment to others inspired countless people during moments of unimaginable danger.
MOCH ECKHAUS
Hero of 9/11
On September 11, 2001, Moch Eckhaus joined fellow members of Hatzalah and left the safety of Brooklyn to respond to the World Trade Center attacks.
Years earlier, as a teenager, Moch volunteered at Camp Gan Israel of the Valley, where his connection to the Chabad of the Valley family began.
NAOR
Hero of October 7th
On October 7, 2023, as Israel endured one of the darkest days in its history, Naor answered a call that demanded extraordinary courage. With bullets flying and danger at every turn, he showed little regard for his own safety, repeatedly placing himself in harm's way to rescue others.
Among those he helped save were Danielle Sassi and her sister, whose family shares deep ties with the Chabad of the Valley community.
LEIBEL LAZAROFF
Hero of Bondi Beach
Raised in a family of Chabad emissaries, Leibel Lazaroff grew up learning that every person matters and that helping others is both a privilege and a responsibility.
At Bondi Beach, when faced with a terrifying attack, Leibel responded with remarkable courage and presence of mind. His quick actions helped save lives.
